Thread Bible Study and Emberside
Privacy Policy
Last updated 3 October 2026 · covers Thread Bible Study, Emberside, and our websites
Who we are
Thread Bible Study and Emberside are made by Wayfarers Digital LLC (“we”). This policy covers both apps and our websites: discipleshiptogether.com, embersideapp.com, threadbiblestudy.com and wayfarersdigital.com.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address and display name. If you sign in with Apple, Google or Microsoft, they give us your email address and, if you agree, your name.
- What you create: in Thread, reflections, notes, highlights and bookmarks; in Emberside, prayer requests, messages, pictures, files, gatherings and replies.
- Groups and churches: which groups and churches you belong to, and your role in them.
- How you use the apps: lesson progress and review history in Thread; gathering replies, attendance a leader records, and when you last opened Emberside.
- Purchases: when a church buys a plan, the billing email address and the email address of a second admin the buyer names. Stripe handles card details; we never receive them.
- Device and technical information: a notification token if you allow notifications, crash reports (what went wrong, with basic device details such as model and operating system), usage analytics in Thread, and the IP address and browser or device information our providers receive when you use the apps and sites.
- Messages to us: if you contact us, ask for a demo or sign up to test, your name, email address and what you write.
We collect this from you, from your device, and from the services you use to sign in or pay. Some of what you share, such as prayer requests and the church you belong to, may reveal religious beliefs. We use it only to provide the apps to you and the people you share it with.
We do not collect your precise location, your contacts or advertising identifiers.
How we use it
- To provide the apps, including showing what you post to the people you share it with.
- To process a church’s purchase and manage its plan.
- To send notifications and emails you have asked for or that concern your account.
- To keep people safe, including checking pictures for illegal and explicit content and reviewing reports.
- To fix problems and improve the apps.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We do not use your information for advertising.
Who we share it with
We do not sell or share your personal information, and have not done so in the past twelve months. We disclose it only:
- To the people you choose. What you post in a group is visible to that group. A church’s admins can see who holds its seats, whether each seat has been used in the last ninety days, and how many people are in each group. They never see prayer requests or group messages.
- To service providers that process it for us, under our instructions and for no purpose of their own: Supabase (hosting and database), Stripe (payments), Google (notifications, email and picture checks), Apple (notifications on iPhone), Sentry (crash reports), PostHog (analytics in Thread), Project Arachnid Shield, run by the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (picture checks), and Netlify (website hosting).
- To the sign-in service you choose: Apple, Google or Microsoft.
- To GIPHY, if you search for a GIF in Emberside. Your search goes from your device to GIPHY, which handles it under its own privacy policy.
- When the law requires it, including reports to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, or to protect someone’s safety.
- In a merger or sale of our business, under this policy.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account exists and delete it when you delete your account. We keep some information longer when the law requires it, and we keep the email address of an account we have banned so it cannot sign up again. Pictures in Emberside are deleted after five years. Crash reports and analytics are kept for a limited time by the providers that process them.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account in Thread under You → Delete my account, or in Emberside under Settings → Leaving. Without the app, use the request page for Thread or Emberside.
- Notifications can be turned off in your device settings, and Thread’s analytics in its settings.
- Your privacy rights. Depending on where you live, including California, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy, to correct it and to delete it. We do not sell or share personal information, and we use sensitive personal information only to provide the apps. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
To make a request, email privacy@wayfarersdigital.com from the address on your account. We may ask you to confirm it, and we respond within 45 days. Someone you authorize in writing can make a request for you. If we decline a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer.
Children
Our apps are not directed to children under 13, and Emberside is for people 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Safety
How Emberside keeps groups safe, including how pictures are checked and how to report or block someone, is at embersideapp.com/safety. Our child safety standards are at embersideapp.com/child-safety.
Our staff look at your content only when you ask us for help, when it has been reported or flagged by our safety checks, or when the law requires it.
Security
We protect your information with safeguards including encryption in transit and access controls. No system is perfectly secure.
Where it is processed
Our apps and websites are for people in the United States. We and our providers process information in the United States and Canada.
Changes
We post any change here with a new date. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will tell you in the apps or by email before it takes effect.
